Tin oxide supplies SnO2.
A highly effective whitener and opacifier used in low and high
temperature glazes. Enhances color development of copper reds,
iron reds, and chrome pinks.
Prepared from the mineral Cassiterite.
There are two types of tin oxide - white (SnO2) and black (SnO).
White can be reduced to black above 200C, black oxidized to
white above 700C. Both opacify, but black tin oxide causes a
gray cloudiness - thus reduction can ruin a tin-opacified glaze
[IMC].
