Wollastonite supplies CaO and SiO2. Wollastonite is calcium silicate, theoretical formula CaSiO3. It is formed by the metamorphosis of limestone. It may be used as a source of CaO and SiO2 in glazes. The two main differences between wollastonite and whiting+silica: 1) the wollastonite has no CO2 component, and thus no outgassing during firing, and 2) in wollastonite, the CaO and SiO2 are intimately mixed on the molecular scale. Thus, wollastonite might help to eliminate pinholes, and to slightly lower the firing temperature and increase glaze shine and transparency.
